Misty the therapy dog!

Therapy dogs are wonderful creatures. They give their love and time without question.

A therapy dog is not a service dog but a dog that goes through special training and certification in order to be allowed into nursing homes, hospitals, schools and institutions. Therapy dog teams are volunteer and consist of a human handler and one dog.

Visiting with animals can help people feel less lonely, and less depressed. Visits from dogs can provide a welcome change from routine, or the renewal of old friendships. People become more active and responsive both during and after visiting with animals

A dog undergoing certification must be a minimum of one year old however; training can begin at any age.
